In the Viking village of Berk, dragons are feared and fought by everyone. Hiccup, the chief’s son, wants to prove he can be a great Viking, but he doesn’t fit in with the other warriors. After he secretly befriends an injured dragon named Toothless, Hiccup discovers that dragons are not the enemies everyone believes them to be. As he learns more about Toothless and dragon behavior, Hiccup begins to challenge everything his village has been taught.

When Hiccup learns that the dragons are being controlled by a much larger threat, he must convince his family and friends to see dragons differently. With the help of Toothless, Astrid, and the other young Vikings, Hiccup leads a daring effort to protect both dragons and humans. In the end, Berk is transformed as the two sides learn to live together in peace.
